The Electrical, Automation & Industrial IT section within the business area Life Science is now looking for an Automation Engineer within DCS who wants to shape the future together with us at AFRY.
About the Role
As an Automation Engineer within DCS, you will become a key player in developing, commissioning, and maintaining our distributed control systems (DCS) in a high-tech and GMP-regulated production environment within Life Science, where travel may occur.
Your Responsibilities:
As a DCS Automation Engineer, you are responsible for configuring, programming, and optimizing DCS systems to ensure stable and efficient operation. You participate in projects from design and construction to commissioning and validation. You perform troubleshooting and preventive maintenance of control systems and process equipment, and integrate DCS with PLC, SCADA, and/or MES systems. You ensure that all automation solutions meet GMP, GAMP 5, and regulatory requirements. Additionally, you participate in technical discussions and design phases of automation solutions, FAT/SAT, qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), and documentation, as well as contribute to improvement projects and the implementation of new technology.
Systems and Equipment
Examples of systems and equipment you will work with:
- Siemens PCS 7, ABB 800xA, Emerson DeltaV, or similar DCS platforms
- Batch control and recipe systems
- Process equipment for pharmaceutical manufacturing (e.g., mixers, reactors, filling lines)
- Industrial networks and communication protocols (Profibus, Profinet, OPC)
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who has:
- At least 3 years of experience in automation within the process industry
- Documented experience in DCS configuration, programming, and commissioning
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English (spoken and written)
- Experience within Life Science, pharmaceutical industry, food industry, healthcare, nuclear power, or other regulated industries
Desirable:
- Technical higher education in automation, electrical engineering, mechatronics, or equivalent
- Experience in integration between DCS and PLC/SCADA/MES
- Worked with batch control and recipe systems
- Experience with GMP and validation work
